Arts, culture and community

Creativity is part of what makes a place worth belonging to.

For Mo and his family, art is not separate from community life. It is a way of preserving memory, creating conversation and giving people a place to encounter one another differently.

A family cultural initiative

The Honarkar Foundation for Arts and Culture

Established in 2019, The Honarkar Foundation for Arts and Culture reflects a multigenerational commitment shared by Mo and his daughters, Hasty Honarkar and Nikki Honarkar Bostwick.

In 2023, the Foundation opened a 4,200‑square‑foot exhibition space in Laguna Beach's historic former post office. The restored setting created a new public chapter for an important local building and a platform for Southern California artists, cultural dialogue and community gathering.

Inaugural exhibition

Jorg Dubin: a Laguna retrospective

The Foundation's inaugural exhibition presented a 38‑work retrospective by longtime Laguna Beach artist Jorg Dubin. The exhibition honored a body of work deeply connected to the community and established the Foundation's commitment to artists whose practices help define Southern California's cultural identity.

Artists and exhibitions

The Foundation's exhibitions and programming have included work connected to:

Culture as stewardship

A building can hold memory and make room for what comes next.

The Foundation connects preservation and participation. Its home in the historic former post office gives cultural use to a building already woven into Laguna Beach's civic memory.

The larger purpose is access: create a setting where artists can be seen, neighbors can gather and nonprofit organizations can bring people together.

Family and continuity

Three generations in one frame.

Mo is the father of two daughters and grandfather of five. The photograph brings all three generations together: Mo, his two daughters and his five grandchildren, joined by other family members.
